Couristan Rug
Couristan Rug - Getting Better with Age!
Couristan is one of those companies that you like to find out about. It's a family run business still in the family, now being run by a set of second generation brothers. Back in 1926, two brothers, Basil and George J. Couri founded a small importing company they called Couri Brothers. After starting with Persian rugs, they began to import rugs from other countries: India, China, and Japan. By the 1950s they were importing broad-loom rugs and in the 1960s they began their first power-loomed rugs.
George Couri now runs their Custom Carpeting Division, where Couristan carpet actually makes the bulk of their sales. His brother, Ron Couri, runs the residential side of area rugs. You can buy a Couristan rug from one of 25 machine-loomed rug collections or 20 handmade rug collections. The Couris brothers do more than $100 million dollars in sales each year.
If you haven't been to the Couristan Inc website, then you're in for a treat. This website lets you look at Couristan area rugs in their online gallery of rugs. It's wonderfully designed, probably my favorite of all the dealer sites that I've come across. You get to search for rugs using their five search categories: power-loomed (machine made) area rugs, handmade area rugs, special shapes, roll runner, or residential broadloom rugs.
The thing that really impresses me about their website is that for every Couristan area rug you select, you can find out all about it in one click! The Couri brothers understand how people buy rugs! They include detailed information about their collections, as well as how you would categorize it at a high level. Finally, for the decorating challenged, they provide decorating tips customized for each Couristan area rug! Shut up!
While you're deciding which Couristan area rug you want to buy, you can put your favorites into a ÒMY FAVORITESÓ folder that Couristan will save online for you. No more notes or printing out stuff to try to remember what your Couristan rugs looked like. Just keep them saved online while you work out which of your favorites can fit where in your house.
You can't buy a Couristan area rug directly from the Couri brothers' website, however. They will give you a list of the closest dealers and you can request a print catalog of their rugs to study over as well.
