Sheepskin Rugs - Soft, Warm, Durable Luxury
Sheepskin rugs are warm, soft additions to any home. Once only used in rustic decor, sheep skin rugs can now be seen as area rugs in a variety of modern homes. Unlike more delicate alpaca rugs, sheep skin rugs are very durable.
Sheep skin rugs made from Australian or New Zealand sheep have thicker fur. A rug made from South American sheep is more delicate; similar to one made from alpaca skin. It can withstand only limited traffic and use.
Although bear rugs offer a more rustic feel, and zebra skin rugs create a safari, exotic mood, sheep skin rugs are more versatile and can better fit most any decorating theme. These rugs are also much less expensive than bear, zebra, and alpaca rugs.
You can find a sheep skin rug that has been dyed or has a geometric pattern. However most rugs of any skin are kept natural. Most sheep skin rugs can be vacuumed and machine washed on a wool or delicate cycle. If you are at all worried about ruining your rug, you can have it professionally dry cleaned by a cleaner who knows about rugs and skins.
There is a very wide price range when shopping for sheep skin rugs. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for. The more expensive rugs tend to be better made and last longer. These higher-end rugs are softer, thicker, and more durable. If you want the look and feel of a sheep skin rug for less money, be sure to take a look at the many faux skin rugs available.
